Our Focus Here at The Pate House

We hope to see those living on the streets, in their vehicles, in tents, or in shelters find a permanent and safe place to call home. It is important to address physical, spiritual, and mental health needs. Sometimes a person may be homeless due to a lack of medical resources. Getting them to the right doctor and getting them on appropriate medication(s) can make a world of difference in their lives. It may be a much-needed mental health treatment or medication. Other times, it may be treating an illness or chronic pain appropriately so that the person can “get back to living.” In some cases, there are mental disabilities that cannot be improved, and in those cases, people need resources to learn about residential housing options that include caretakers and around the clock staff. Whatever the case may be, we believe there are things we can do to improve people’s lives and bring glory to God’s Kingdom in helping the poor and displaced living among us. We live in America- we can do better for those living among us!

Donations we accept…work clothes, shoes, coats, washer, dryer, stove, bedframes, dressers, microwave, fridge, coffee pots, toaster, knick-knacks, any items you would put in a garage sale, home decor, tv’s, dishes, pots /pans, old vehicles, bikes that are still in usable shape. A lot of us have been successful and blessed. We may have nice homes, but some of these folks have never experienced living in a nice place or feeling secure for their next meal. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all share our extra items, share our time, and be willing to train and encourage others?

A mentoring donation could be: helping a person make a family garden. This helps them learn to be more self-sustaining, plus teaches them that not all foods need to come from a grocery store or be processed. Plus, it can be a healthy hobby. We welcome anyone interested in gardening to consider helping in this area.

If you are unable to donate labor, physical items, spiritual guidance, mentoring, or other items, please consider making a financial donation. This could be ten or twenty dollars, this could even be five hundred dollars, or thousands of dollars- whatever you feel you can do and are moved by God’s Holy Spirit to contribute. This money will help these folks get back on their feet, get employed, and get reintroduced into society. Another way to help would be to pay fines or tickets that must be paid before an individual can receive their driver’s license or a replacement birth certificate. While these types of issues may be trivial to someone who has a job, they can be disabling for someone with limited funds or resources. Paying fines to get a license reinstated is more common than you might think. Most jobs require a license and a Social Security card to be hired and begin working, so as you can see, it can become a vicious cycle from the get-go.

If you have an old vehicle that you no longer use or need, old office equipment, cell phones, or something else of value that you wish to donate, let us know. We can almost always accept such items, and they go a long way in helping people reclaim their lives. Our goal is to get these people working in jobs that provide a living wage, with a proper driver’s license/insurance and a reliable car. Once they have meaningful employment, we can look at helping them find a place to live. We would like to expose them to a good, safe, quality lifestyle and hopefully teach them critical thinking skills to help them maintain this higher economic lifestyle and enjoy having a space of their own to call home.
